Study Space at Penryn
The library has a mixture of study facilities with a combination of group, quiet and silent study areas, and meeting rooms, which support both individual, and collaborative learning.
Exchange Level 1
Library Helpdesk and Group Study Area
As this area is used primarily for group study work and discussions. It is not a designated quiet area. Cold snacks, lidded drinks and mobile phones are allowed in this area.
There are three Group Study Rooms to the front of the Exchange which are bookable soley by students
Group Study 1 can accommodate up to 8 users: Bookable for a maximum of 2 hours by a minimum of 4 people
Group Study 2 can accommodate up to 4 users: Bookable for a maximum of 2 hours by a minimum of 2 people
Group Study 3 can accommodate up to 4 users: Priority Accessibility room - bookable for a maximun of 2 hours by a minimum of 2 people
Group Study meeting room. The room is bookable for a maximum of 4 hours (minimum 2 people).
The meeting room is fully equipped with data projector, computer and conference table for practicing presentations and working through assignments. This room can be booked using the whiteboard outside the room. It is suitable for groups of up to 8 users. At times the room may be booked for use by Academic Liaison Librarians and Archives for teaching and learning sessions.
Group Study Alcove - can accommodate up to 5 users: Bookable for a maximum of 2 hours by a minimum of 2 people.
Exchange Level 2
Just inside the Level 2 Exchange entrance there are alcoves and 'Write on Walls'; social learning spaces all with multimedia display equipment.
Main Library Collections
There are 2 study areas on Level 2 of the Library.
Solo study on the Exchange side of the library
This area is for quiet individual study but this is not a quiet area as noise filters up from the social street. Mobile phones should be on silent and calls taken away from this area. Cold snacks and lidded drinks are permitted. If you want to work with colleagues please use the Group Study area on Level 1 of the Library.
Quiet Study Area
This area, including the main book collection, is designated as a Quiet Study space throughout. Mobile phones should be on silent and any calls taken away from this area. Lidded drinks are permitted
At the request of students using the space, please do not eat in this area.
There are two Silent Study rooms to the front of the Exchange, both designated as strictly silent spaces. Users are asked not to talk, eat, drink, use mobile phones or disturb other users in any way. Please ensure headphones are on a very low setting. These rooms are not bookable.
At the far end of the main library collection there is The Flexible Learning Room. This is a quiet study room equipped with 5 PCs, 1 Apple Mac, a data projector and tables. Users are asked to be quiet when using this room as noise can filter out into the main library. This room is a bookable space for students using the timetable outside, however, at times the room may be booked for use by Academic Liaison Librarians and Archives for teaching and learning sessions.
The Reading Room
Special Collections - Quiet Study Area
This area on level 2 is for use by all students and staff for research and study. Designated as Quiet Study, mobile phones must be on silent and calls taken away from this area. Bottled water only is permitted in this area.
There is a quiet study room within The Reading Room which can seat up to 16 people.
At times the room may be booked for use by the Archives team. There will be a notice outside the room if it is not available.
Wi-fi is enabled throughout the building
