Copies of dissertations and theses written by ex-students are held in the Library. The Library generally only accepts dissertations that have been awarded a 1st or 2:1 degree. For reasons of space, we usually only keep dissertations from recent years.
Dissertations are now going digital, so if you can't find your course dissertation on the shelf, remember to check the library catalogue.
All the theses and dissertations held in Penryn and Falmouth libraries can be found by using the library catalogue
and selecting 'Dissertations' from the drop-down list. The catalogue will show whether they are available as print copies or online.
Penryn Campus Library
Print copies of dissertations are shelved in the rolling stack on Level 1 of the Library. They are arranged in order of the course of study (Film, Geography, Textitle Design etc...) and within that by year. Many dissertations submitted from 2017 onwards will only be available online, and can be accessed as PDFs from the library catalogue
Not all Unversity of Exeter courses on the Penryn Campus have chosen to deposit their dissertations with the Library. In these instances, please check with your dissertation supervisor as a sample dissertation may be available in the department or on ELE.
PhD theses are arranged in alphabetical order by surname of author. The thesis section includes theses from Camborne School of Mines and Dartington College of Arts.
From the 2008/2009 session onwards, University of Exeter research students have been required to deposit the full-text electronic version of their theses in the Exeter institutional repository (ORE)
.The repository may also contain earlier theses, as some students have chosen to deposit them there. You can search for University of Exeter theses in ORE or on the University of Exeter library catalogue
Falmouth Campus Library
You can now find the print dissertations half way down on the right hand side of the Library, they are shelved alongside the old newspapers. Please ask if you are having problems finding them. They are shelved in boxes by course name and year. If you can't find recent dissertations for your course, check the library catalogue as they may be available online as PDFs. The PhD Theses are shelved in the main reference collection. All dissertations and theses are for reference only and due to copyright restrictions may not be photocopied. For help finding particular items please ask at the Library helpdesk.
Please note: all dissertations and theses are reference only and may not be photocopied.
