Current Service Updates
The Penryn and Falmouth Campus Libraries are open
However, there are many safety measures in place, such as; a one way system (at Penryn); 2m distancing; screens at the help desks; bookable solo study spaces see the (bookings page); no touch self-service kiosks for returns and borrowing; cleaning stations; hand sanitisers and the wearing of face masks is advised. We cannot accommodate group work or class activities
The library is also here for you online and you have access to excellent online library services, including extensive collections and 1:1 support

Changes to open hours this week
Penryn Campus Library will be open normal term-time open hours from Monday 14 September
Falmouth Campus Library will be open 0900 - 1830 Monday 14 - Friday 18 September with normal term time hours resuming on Saturday 19 September. We apologise for the short notice in this change to open hours
The study spaces in the library are open. We are finalising the booking system for study spaces and will provide links and advice as soon as this is ready. In the meantime, you may sit in any available space. We have arranged the library so that you can study at 2m social distance from anyone else. This means that there are fewer spaces than before and you won’t be able to do groupwork in the library
Reservations and Recalls
You can now place requests as usual via Library Search. You may also be asked to return an item that is requested. If you are not able to do this for any reason, please get in touch with email@example.com.
Inter Library Loans
We can now supply book chapters where a book is held digitally at another institution. Please fill in a Request Form for your institution for both journal articles and book chapters
Borrowing print items via our inter library loan service is back, but due to restrictions these services are not yet fully back to normal and arrival times may take longer. We will do our best to obtain the items you ask for. Please fill in a Request Form
Loans from Streatham Campus
Unfortunately, this service is suspended until further notice. Please use the Recommend a Book form to request items that you may have borrowed from Exeter
Archives & Special Collections Update
The Special Collections area is closed, except by appointment
Loanable Special Collections can be requested via Library Search and made available for collection on the hold shelf in the library, by the helpdesk
Like the rest of the library we have changed the layout of the space to enable social distancing, have cleaning stations in place and will only be offering a limited service to the public
Further FAQs on re-opening the libraries
May I browse and borrow books?
Yes. The library is open for browsing books, journals, DVDs etc. Because the library might be busy, or you might prefer to minimise your time there, we recommend you search online first and make a reservation – we’ll then collect the book from the shelf for you and you can simply pop in and collect it from the hold shelf.
When will the Archives and Special Collections re-open?
The Archives & Special Collections will be open by appointment only from Monday 21 September. A few books in our Special Collections are loanable, you can find these on the Library Search – just make a reservation and we will collect these and put them on the hold shelf for you.
How can I find out about using the library before I start University?
Falmouth Students – have a look at the Library Pathway
Exeter Students – have a look at the Library Induction
What have you done to make the libraries covid safe?
Watch this presentation on the measures we have put in place to make the Penryn and Falmouth libraries covid secure
How will I get a book if I’m self-isolating or shielding?
Lots of your resources are available online – check your resource/reading list to find a link to the online version, or have a look at the Falmouth University Library Search.or University or Exeter Library Search.
If the resource you need is only available in print/physical version and you are unable to visit the library to collect it, then please get in touch with us and we will do our best to support you.
Will members of the public be able to visit the Library and Archives?
During the Autumn term, access to the public will be restricted to current library members to collect books only. Please reserve these in advance and collect from the hold shelf. Due to space restrictions we will not be able to provide study spaces for the public, or permit group visits. This will be reviewed in December.
What library inductions and research skills sessions will you be running this year?
As a student your subject librarian will be popping up during your course to support you with research at key points – such as when you are writing your first assignment or when you start your dissertation. This year those sessions will be run online.
How can I return books?
Please return books in the library. If you are not returning to Falmouth/Penryn please complete this form – the Library will get in touch with you about what to do
Please note that all plans for re-opening the libraries are subject to change in the event of local or government restrictions. We will keep this page up to date with our current service
