Study Spaces
Students can book individual study spaces across the Penryn and Falmouth campuses using the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk
You must wear a face covering in the library (unless you are exempt) including when seated at tables.
All our study spaces are COVID-secure with appropriate social distancing. Therefore collaborative work cannot be done in the library at the moment. There are cleaning products available for your study space. Most of these Study Spaces are in the library areas, but there are also study areas outside the libraries.
You will need to book your session at a study space in advance. You can find out how to book with the videos or guides below.
There are maps available of the Library Study Spaces, showing the numbers of all the bookable spaces below.
Firstly, go to the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk and select your University to log in.
Click on the “Book a Space” tile and you will see the General Information tab
You can book a space on behalf of someone else,- type their name in the “Booking on behalf of” box until you can select the correct person. If you are booking for yourself simply Continue onto the next page.
To find a study space, click on “Time and location” at the top of the box. You will see this at the top of the tab.
Click on the “Start date & time” box. Then select the the date and time that you want to start using a Study Space. The “End date and time” is set to 1 hour after the start time, but you can adjust the time you want to end your session.
You can only book spaces 14 days in advance, and for 8 hours at a time.
Next, select criteria for your study space
- the Building field lets you choose a building or buildings
- the Study Space Area field lets you pick an area within a building
- the Facilities fields lets you select a space with certain equipment or featues, such as a PC, a height adjustable desk or a DVD player
If you know the number of the Study Space you want to book (you'll find the number on the label attached to each Study Space) you can type this number into the Study Space Number box.
Click on “Search” and the bottom part of the screen updates and shows you the available study spaces.
If no Study Spaces are shown then you may need to reduce some of the building, area and facility selections. You can also tick the “Show unavailable reservation units” box to see if all the spaces matching your criteria are already booked.
Once you see a space which fits your needs (you can check where it is and what facilities it has by clicking “More Info”), select the space you want by clicking on its name, click “Confirm booking.”
You will receive an email with this information, so you can click the “OK, close” button.
The Study Spaces are labelled clearly with the number. Find the Study space you booked and then there are two things you must do when you arrive at your booked Study Space:
- Wipe down the Study Space with the cleaning materials provided at the Hygiene Station. You must also do this when you leave.
- Check-in to the study space using the “Space check-in tile” in the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk. If you do not check-in your booking will be cancelled after 30 minutes. See your confirmation email for instructions on what to do.
If you are unable to do both steps, please contact the Estates and Facilities Helpdesk on estateshelpdesk@fxplus.ac.uk, or ask a member of staff for assistance (if available)
Due the changes that have been made on the campuses to deal with the COVID-19 rules, we have designated the libraries, some IT suites and other seating areas as study areas which require a booking to use.
Each desk, table or soft seat is correctly socially distanced and is called a “Study Space”, labelled clearly with a number, like 123-456.
There are over 330 bookable Study Spaces across both the Falmouth and Penryn Campuses, which you can now book using the “Book a Space” option on the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk.
Some of the Study Spaces have these facilities and you can search for these using the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk and following instructions under “How do I book a Study Space?”
‘Soft seating’ is also a facility which you can search for within the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk.
The Upper Stannary Bar, between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday is also available to book for 30 minutes or more at a time.
Study Spaces can be booked up to 14 days in advance.
You can book them for any duration up to 1 day, but we would like everyone to be considerate of others and share this limited resource.
Regular reviews of high usage will be undertaken, and specific needs discussed with you if required.
I’ve booked a Study Space, but I won’t be using it, how do I release the slot so others can book it?
Using the “My Booking” tile in the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk., you can see all your bookings.
Click on the booking you want to cancel, and the same “Overview” tab is displayed as when you made your booking.
Click on “Cancel booking” and you have released the slot.
You can also use the “My Bookings” tab to adjust your booking details if you need to modify the date and time or the location of the Study Space.
If you have finished your study before your booked period has come to an end, please amend your booking to allow others the opportunity to book the Study Space.
If you find a problem with the room or area (not the IT or other equipment) in which you are working, such as a leak or a fault with the door, you can use the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk.
Click on the “Log a fault or request service” tile and complete this:
Provide as much information as you can so that the Estates and Facilities team can find and resolve the fault quickly.
Faults with IT equipment, such as PCs, Macs, printers or problems logging on or using the software you are using, should be reported using the IT Service Desk or by emailing servicedesk@fxplus.ac.uk, or by calling 01326 213822.
There are audio-visual devices in some Study Spaces. If you have a problem with a video, DVD, Blu-ray or record player, please email Library@fxplus.ac.uk or follow the instructions on the device.

The rooms within the Masters Suite, should only be booked by Masters students.
The system may allow you to book these spaces, but your student card will not allow you into the area if you are not a Masters student.
Areas of our campuses are shared between Exeter and Falmouth Universities. There are also spaces which are dedicated to a single University. The COVID-19 measures that we had to put in place, meant that uncontrolled access to technical and shared spaces was not permittable. Unfortunately, a single booking system for all students covering all types of areas was just not possible for the start of the new year.
If you have any feedback on the Study Space booking system, please contact estateshelpdesk@fxplus.ac.uk
